A long layover is not dead time. Travelaya works out whether you can leave, see the city, and get back before the gate closes, then holds you to it.

08:40The problem

Eleven hours in a terminalis a decision nobody made

You know the city is out there. What you do not know is whether the museum is open when you land, how long the train really takes, or how late you can leave and still make the gate. So you stay, and eleven hours go to a plastic chair.

The arithmetic is not hard, it is just tedious and unforgiving, and nobody wants to do it on a phone at 6am. Travelaya does it, keeps doing it while your inbound slips, and gives you one thing back: a time by which you have to turn around. Get the app

08:52How it works

Three answers, in that order

The Colosseum lit at night
01

Give it your window

When you land, when you take off, and the flight numbers if you have them. Nothing else.

The Galata Tower above Istanbul at night
02

See what actually fits

Every place is ranked against your window. Opening hours, the ride in, the ride back, and how long you would really spend there.

Tokyo Tower above the city at night
03

Leave with a deadline

You get an hour to head back and an alarm before it. The clock keeps running on your device, with or without signal.

13:51The arithmetic

One number that matters

01

It counts the way back

Most people plan the trip out and forget the return. The window is measured round trip, at the ninetieth percentile, not the optimistic one.

02

Closed is not an option

A museum that shuts at five is no plan for a layover that starts at six. Opening hours are scored against your window, including places that run past midnight.

03

Delays move the maths

Add your flight numbers and a late inbound or an earlier gate close recomputes the verdict instead of quietly invalidating it.

04

It works with no signal

Once you are moving, the clock and the point of no return live on your device. Foreign SIM, dead roaming, airplane mode. It still counts down.
